What does ISO 9001 require for training and competence?
Clause 7.2 of ISO 9001:2015 requires a company to determine the competence needed for work that affects quality, ensure it through education, training or experience, evaluate the effectiveness of the actions taken and retain documented information as evidence. Clause 7.3 adds that employees must be aware of the quality policy, quality objectives and their own contribution. A competency matrix shows who is qualified for what and where gaps exist. How do you build a competency matrix?
Employees go in the rows, activities or qualifications in the columns. Each cell records whether the competence is there, often on a scale of about four levels, from no knowledge to able to train others. What matters is that it is clearly defined which competence each activity requires.
Excel or software for the training matrix?
An Excel matrix works as long as one person maintains it and nobody has to track repetitions. As employees and instructions grow, assignment, repeat intervals, comprehension checks and evidence are missing in one place. In QuKI they are linked to the competency matrix.
How is this different from instructions in the Safety App?
