In short

How often must an internal audit under ISO 9001 take place?

Clause 9.2 of ISO 9001:2015 requires internal audits at planned intervals, the standard sets no fixed rhythm. Frequency depends on the importance of the processes, on changes and on the results of previous audits, and in many SMEs every process is audited once a year. Auditors must be objective and impartial, so as a rule they do not audit their own work. QuKI runs the audit programme with annual view, checklists, findings and actions.

Where internal audits get stuck today

  • The audit programme sits in Excel and nobody sees which audit is due next
  • Questions are copied from an old checklist every year
  • After the audit the report takes longer than the audit itself
  • Findings disappear in the report and nobody tracks the actions

How audit management works in QuKI

Audit programme with annual view

All planned internal and external audits of a year at a glance. You see what is coming up and what is done.

Audit questions per standard

Audits run with checklists, so no clause is forgotten and audits stay comparable.

With AI

The AI reads your process documents and proposes audit questions per standard, each with a confidence value. You accept, change or discard every suggestion.

Support the audit, produce the report

You record findings during the audit, the audit report is built from them.

With AI

During the audit the AI records along, summarises the findings and produces the audit report as a suggestion. You review and approve.

Findings become actions

Every finding becomes an action with an owner and a deadline, tracked to completion.

From audit programme to completed action

  1. 1

    Plan

Schedule audits in the annual programme.

  2. 2

    Prepare

Take over and adjust the questions the AI proposes.

  3. 3

    Audit

Work through the checklist, record findings.

  4. 4

    Follow up

Approve the report, track actions to completion.

What changes for you

  • Audit preparation becomes a query, not a search
  • Audit questions fit your processes, not someone else’s template
  • The report is done when the audit is done
  • No finding gets lost, because each becomes an action with a deadline

Frequently asked questions

Who may carry out an internal audit?

Anyone who knows the standard and auditing and looks at the audited area objectively. Employees can audit, just not their own work. Small companies therefore swap areas or bring in an external person. ISO 19011 gives guidance on auditing.

What is the difference between an internal audit and a certification audit?

You carry out the internal audit yourself to check and improve your system. The certification audit is carried out by an accredited certification body, which checks among other things whether your internal audits are effective. In QuKI you plan internal and external audits in the same programme.

Do we audit against ISO 9001:2015 or the 2026 version?

ISO 9001:2026 was published on 16 September 2026. According to certification bodies the transition period runs 36 months, until September 2029. Which version your next audit uses is best agreed with your certification body.

Does the audit work on site without internet?

No. QuKI is a web app in the browser and needs an internet connection. No installation is needed.
