In short

Is supplier evaluation under ISO 9001 mandatory?

Yes. Clause 8.4 of ISO 9001:2015 requires a company to define and apply criteria for the evaluation, selection, monitoring of performance and re-evaluation of external providers, and to document the results. It covers suppliers whose products and services affect the quality of your own output, and you set the criteria and the rhythm yourself. QuKI runs evaluation and monitoring with classification, audit reference and escalation levels.

Where supplier evaluation gets stuck today

  • Evaluation happens once a year in Excel, just before the audit
  • Criteria change from year to year, comparisons over time are hardly possible
  • Whether a poorly rated supplier faced consequences is not evidenced
  • Which suppliers are critical is recorded in no system

Frequently asked questions

Which suppliers must be evaluated?

All whose products, services or outsourced processes affect the quality of your own output. A supplier of office material usually does not count, a supplier of raw material or a subcontractor does.

Which criteria and weighting are common?

Common criteria are quality, such as the complaint rate, plus delivery reliability, price, communication and certifications. Many companies weight quality and delivery reliability most heavily and award points per criterion. What matters is that criteria are defined and applied consistently.

Does the AI evaluate our suppliers?

No. Supplier management works without its own AI function, you do the evaluation. Supplier data can still be reached through the AI analysis in the management review.
