Time tracking for Swiss SMEs that checks the Labour Act as you go

Your employees clock in and out with one click in the browser or at a terminal on site, or enter their time by hand. Balances calculate themselves, your canton’s public holidays are built in, and CrewDeck shows where a limit of the Labour Act has been breached.

In short

What must time tracking in Switzerland be able to do?

Employers in Switzerland must record working time, with the duration, start and end of daily and weekly working time and breaks of half an hour or more (Art. 46 ArG, Art. 73 ArGV 1). The records must be kept for at least five years after they cease to apply. CrewDeck by Digital Airways is time tracking and HR software from Basel that checks recorded times against the limits of the Swiss Labour Act and is hosted in Switzerland.

Where time tracking gets stuck in SMEs today

  • Hours sit in Excel, and at month end someone recalculates the balances by hand
  • Nobody notices in time when rest periods or maximum hours are breached
  • Part-time percentages and public holidays make every target-hours calculation error-prone
  • When the labour inspectorate comes, breaks, corrections or older years are missing

How time tracking works in CrewDeck

One part of CrewDeck, connected to absences, the org chart and HR management.

Clock in by click or at a terminal

Employees clock in and out with one click in the browser, at the desk or on the phone. On site they can also use a shared terminal with a personal code or employee badge. Anyone who needs to enters time by hand.

Balances and working time models

Target time, time worked and balance follow from the working time model and the person’s percentage. Nobody keeps an hours list by hand any more.

Check against the Labour Act

CrewDeck checks maximum hours, breaks, rest periods and the daily span in the weekly view and again every night. Every warning names the article it is based on.

Holidays of all 26 cantons

Cantonal public holidays are built in, nobody maintains a calendar by hand. CrewDeck calculates working days in your organisation’s time zone.

Corrections and month-end close

A correction overwrites nothing, it is created as a new version with a reason. The month-end close locks the month, and the change log shows who changed what and when.

Time records as export

Export the time records under Art. 73 ArGV 1 as CSV or PDF, for example for an inspection. CrewDeck does not run payroll.

Four steps to time tracking under the Labour Act

  1. 1

    Set up

Define working time models, add employees with their percentage.

  2. 2

    Record

By click in the browser, at the terminal or by hand.

  3. 3

    Check

CrewDeck compares the times with the limits and warns.

  4. 4

    Close

Close and lock the month, export the time records.

What changes for you

  • Balances add up without anyone recalculating at month end
  • Breaches surface as they happen, not at the inspection
  • Working times, breaks and corrections are complete when someone asks
  • No installation and no server at your site, you open the browser

Frequently asked questions

Is time tracking mandatory in Switzerland?

Yes, for all employees covered by the Labour Act. The employer must keep records showing the duration, start and end of daily and weekly working time including breaks of half an hour or more (Art. 46 ArG, Art. 73 ArGV 1). Exceptions are the waiver under Art. 73a and simplified recording under Art. 73b ArGV 1, both only under conditions.

Is there a CrewDeck app for the phone?

CrewDeck is a web app. It runs in the browser on computer, tablet and phone, with no installation. We do not offer an app in the App Store or on Google Play, and an app called CrewDeck offered there is not from Digital Airways.

How do the hours get to payroll?

By export, not through an interface. CrewDeck outputs the time records under Art. 73 ArGV 1 as CSV or PDF and the employee list as CSV. CrewDeck does not run payroll, and there is no interface to payroll software such as bexio or Abacus.

Is CrewDeck enough for a labour inspectorate check?

CrewDeck records the duration, start and end of working time including breaks, keeps the data for at least five years and outputs the time records under Art. 73 ArGV 1 as CSV or PDF. Every correction is in the change log. Whether a business complies also depends on its own processes. CrewDeck maps the statutory limits and does not replace employment law advice, responsibility stays with the employer.

Does time tracking work when working from home?

Yes. Recording runs in the browser wherever someone works, and the duty to record working time applies at home just as on site. CrewDeck does not record a location.

Which languages is CrewDeck available in?

The interface is available in German, French, Italian and English.
